Coyotes compete in exclusive beach volleyball event
WC wins second in special spring tournament
A unique opportunity turned into a successful experience over the weekend for Weatherford College volleyball as three athletes competed in a two-day beach volleyball tournament held in Huntsville, Alabama.
This year, the National Junior College Athletic Association opened a single pairs event to colleges that expressed interest, allowing 16 teams to compete after the official beach championship concluded.
WC volleyball sent Beline Thibaut, Nehir Han, and Genevieve D'Arcy to compete against seasoned players who have been together in beach tournaments all season long. The trio placed second overall, having not played the outdoor variety all spring.
Thibaut was the experienced captain, having played some beach volleyball in France before coming to WC.
The team improved as a group in the five matches they played.
"It was so impressive to see the three of them talk and strategize together to figure out how to beat these seasoned teams," remarked head coach Kailee May.
"I'm so proud of their fight and willingness to learn and improve every match. It's a very tough sport physically and mentally and these three gave it their all!"
