Souza and Urbanska named Players of the Week
Two Coyotes recognized for outstanding pre-season performances
The Weatherford College volleyball team had two players named as the offensive and defensive players of the week for the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference for Aug. 24 to 30: Kiana Souza on the defensive side and Weronika Urbanska on offense.
A 5-foot-6 sophomore libero from San Antonio, Texas, Souza was chosen as the NTJCAC Defensive Player of the Week. In their recent matchup against North Central Texas College, she had 23 digs and one ace. She was averaging three and a half digs per set for WC, including 14 digs and three aces in a sweep against Tyler Junior College. She also brought in 18 assists and eight aces across the five matches and is currently 10th in the nation in service aces.
A 6-foot sophomore outside hitter from Warsaw, Poland, Urbanska was the NTJCAC Offensive Player of the Week. She led the offense for the Coyotes as they went 4-0 at the Kruse Kick-Off at Blinn, as well as a sweep of Tyler Junior College at Tyler. She had 14 kills with no errors in their sweep of Panola, hitting over .600. Over the five matches, Urbanska led the team in points per set, averaging an impressive 4.8 points per set. She likewise contributed nine aces and five blocks over the five matches.
