WC women's golf headed to second national tournament
Coyotes win conference championship, finish second at NJCAA Southwest District tournament
Among the challenging conditions and sudden temperature changes on Wednesday, the No. 7 Weatherford College women's golf team prevailed at the NJCAA Southwest District tournament held at Canyon West Golf Course, placing second among the seven competing teams.
For their outstanding seasonal performance, WC was named the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Champions and qualify for their second consecutive nationals appearance.
The Coyotes were three shots shy of claiming first place, coming in behind No. 1 Odessa College, who won the Region V championship.
In the individuals, three of the top five contenders came from WC.
Corrina Haros came in second with a score of one over par.
Tasnim Smaili placed third, scoring four over par, and Emily Gutierrez tied for fourth with Sophie Brothwood from New Mexico Junior College with a final score of six over par.
The Coyotes look ahead to their competition of the year, the NJCAA Division 1 National Championship held at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois. The event will be from Monday May 11 to Thursday May 14.
