Lady Coyotes knocked out of tournament by No. 3 NMJC
Tournaround season ends in Waco
The Lady Coyotes' turnaround season ended in the Region V Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. Weatherford College lost to No. 3 New Mexico Junior College 76-66 in Waco.
It was the program's first postseason appearance in three years and the most wins in five years (20-11 overall).
New Mexico (28-7), the Western Junior College Athletic Conference co-champions, jumped out to a 30-10 lead in the first quarter. WC tightened things up in the second and third quarters and then outscored the Lady Thunderbirds 24-13 in the final frame, but it wasn't enough.
WC was led by 15 points and four steals from Jacque Giron. Pearson McVay added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Klimentina Modeva had 12 points.
Two New Mexico players scored 19 points each, Cacia Antonio and Amyah Sutton.
This year's WC roster included 11 freshmen and four sophomores.
