No. 1 MCC wins two close games vs. WC softball
Coyotes look to bounce back as series with top-ranked McLennan shifts to Stuart Field on Friday
McLennan Community College's top-ranked softball team beat Weatherford College twice in Waco on Wednesday, 3-0 and 1-0.
Both games were pitchers' duels with strong performances in the circle, but MCC prevailed because of timely hitting.
McLennan's Kynlei Chapman scattered four hits over seven innings in the first game, with no earned runs, two walks and nine strikeouts. WC's Madison Lux was the only WC batter with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
In game two, WC's Faith Drissel kept MCC off the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth inning. Drissel allowed five hits, one earned run and one walk. The Coyote offense could only get four hits.
No. 1 McLennan (42-5 overall, 24-2 conference) has won 12 games in a row. No. 17 WC (33-11, 21-9) had a nine-game winning streak prior to Wednesday.
The two teams will play another doubleheader on Friday at Stuart Field in a noon doubleheader, WC's final home games before the postseason.
