Weatherford College softball brought out the broom for a series sweep against Cisco College last week. The No. 17 Coyotes took all four games from the Wranglers with a run rule victory in game one, winning 10-2 and a shutout 8-0 in game two Wednesday in Cisco.
Game three at Stuart Field was a close victory for the Coyotes winning 4-3, while game four doubled the score with a call back to game two in an 8-0 shutout.
The Coyotes are now 24-6 overall, with a 12-4 record in conference play. They have won five of their last six games played.
Game one on Wednesday had a dynamite arm in the circle from Sarah Hanf. The Californian had 12 strikeouts and one walk, with only two runs on four hits. The Coyotes put up five runs on five hits in the fourth inning. Singles from Landry Fonseca, Peyton Young, Zaniah Coleman and a double from Madison Lux helped push the Coyotes over the top.
In game two, WC put up 11 hits and no errors, with Young going 3-for-3 at the plate. Weatherford had Faith Drissel in the pitcher's circle, throwing four strikeouts and one walk. She allowed no runs on five hits.
In Saturday's Game three, Hanf pitched seven strikeouts across all seven innings, allowing nine hits and three runs, zero earned. Jillian Franco, Coleman and Lux all drove in a run for WC, taking the close win.
In game four, the Coyotes scored early on a sacrifice fly from Janae Trojacek. WC then scored three runs in the second, and one more in the fourth.
Fonseca's ground ball in the bottom of the fifth was the catalyst for the shutout. Gaining a double on an error from Cisco, Fonseca scored on a single from catcher Kaela Gillis.
A double from Isabella Alosi brought Gillis home, with Alexah Reyes sealing the deal on a single out to right, scoring Alosi to win on the run rule.
Drissel repeated her success in game two, throwing five strikeouts and three walks, allowing no runs on four hits.
The Coyotes will take on Grayson College on Wednesday, March 26. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. WC will host the Vikings on Saturday, March 29 at Stuart Field in a noon doubleheader.
