Coyotes win one against Temple
Hanf and Drissel shine on the mound
No. 16 Weatherford College softball put up a good fight in the second half of their series against No. 13 Temple College on Saturday. WC brought in a win of 7-6 in game three but lost 3-7 in game four.
Game three was a display of patience from the WC dugout. Despite trailing by four in the fourth inning, the Coyotes (7-4 in conference, 20-6 overall) pressed on against the Leopards (7-4, 24-9), scoring five runs on four hits to get the job done.
Catcher Janae Trojacek was the RBI leader for WC, bringing home three, while Madison Lux had one.
Right-handed pitcher Faith Drissel earned the win for the Coyotes, striking out four batters. Only giving up one hit and one run over three innings played, Sarah Hanf relieved Drissel, collecting another six strikeouts. Hanf only allowed one earned run for the remaining three innings.
In game two, the Leopards and Coyotes were taking turns in scoring. Temple had one in the first and two in the third.
WC responded in the fourth by tying the game up with two solo home runs delivered by Trojacek and Hanna Bartles, and an RBI from a single off the bat of Sadie Reid.
The game remained a 3-3 tie until the ninth when Temple's Jaycee Tumlinson hit a grand slam to take the game in a walk-off victory. The Leopards took the four-game series, winning three.
The Coyotes will be on the road for a divisional matchup at Cisco College on Wednesday, March 19. Games begin at 1 and 3 p.m.
