WC rodeo earns first dual team qualification to CNFR
The Coyotes will send both its men’s and women’s teams to the College National Finals Rodeo for the first time in program history after a dominant Lone Star Region season.
The milestone was secured at the conclusion of the NIRA Lone Star Region regular season at the Tarleton Stampede in Stephenville. Each team had qualified in previous years, but never both in the same season.
The 2026 CNFR appearance also marks WC's 22nd consecutive year sending competitors to the national finals, continuing one of the most consistent traditions of excellence in collegiate rodeo.
Weatherford College claimed the NIRA Lone Star Region Women's Team Championship and finished as Men's Team Reserve Champions, highlighting a dominant season across the region. The program also brought home the Lone Star Region Rodeo of the Year Award for its fall event, while assistant coach Hadley Kibbe earned Coach of the Year honors.
Individually, WC competitors posted an impressive collection of regional titles and top finishes.
Emily Ward was named the Women's All‑Around Champion, leading the Coyotes while also capturing the region championship in barrel racing. Ward was joined in the barrel racing standings by Kacey Bass, who finished as the reserve champion, and Acey Pinkston, who earned third place.
In bull riding, Mecate Trammell secured the Lone Star Region championship, while Mitchie Story finished as the reserve champion in saddle bronc riding.
The Coyotes dominated team roping, sweeping multiple podium spots.
In the heading, Jett Stewart earned the region championship, with Denton Parrish finishing as reserve champion and Hunter Helton placing third. On the heeling side, Belden Cox claimed the region title, followed by Brock Borkman as reserve champion and Jeryn Ellerd in third place.
In goat tying, Jacee Graff added to WC success with a reserve champion finish in the standings.
"We're proud of the work these athletes have put in all year long," said Johnny Emmons, head coach. "Their dedication, grit and consistency continue to represent Weatherford College at the highest level."
The College National Finals Rodeo will be held June 14–20 in Casper, Wyoming, where WC will compete against the top collegiate rodeo programs from across the nation.
