Coyotes triumphant at Bethany College Classic; Langan first in individuals
WC men's golf awarded first place team and first place solo athlete in Kansas tournament
The No. 5 Weatherford College men's golf team returned home this week from the Bethany College Classic with another tournament victory. Sophomore Dawson Langan placed first among individuals, while several teammates finished within the top ten.
"We played at the host course for our national championship, Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas," head golf coach Dave Rennhack said.
"Our team loves this venue, and being able to compete in another event on the course that's hosting our national championship is going to help our confidence."
Through 54 holes, WC finished 2-under-par to claim first place, beating No. 11 Friends University and No. 14 Iowa Western Community College. The team shot 4-under-par in round one, 6-over in round two and 4-under in the third round.
Rennhack praised the team's performance despite cold, windy conditions.
"We played some great golf," he said. "Sand Creek Station never fails in providing a tough challenge."
This was the first individual win at WC for Langan, a United Kingdom native. He finished 4-under-par, shooting 3-under in the first round, 3-over in the second and 4-under in the final round.
"It was exciting seeing Dawson get his first individual win at Weatherford College," Rennhack said.
"His great attitude is contagious, and he has really stepped up as a player and a team captain this year."
Freshman Youssef El Hali finished third overall at 1-under-par.
Freshman Nicholas Lewis tied for fifth at 3-over-par, while sophomore Abderahmane Fakor took seventh place at 4-over.
The team competes in the NJCAA Division I Region 5 Championship at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland, Texas, on April 13 and 14.
