The Weatherford College men's golf team brought home a share of the championship from the Shawnee Shootout in Oklahoma, finishing in a tie with Southwestern Christian University for first place out of 15 teams March 28-29.
The Coyotes were two strokes behind the Eagles after two rounds but made up ground in round three, outshooting SCU 315 to 317. The two teams were 15 strokes better than the third place team.
WC's Gatlin Goad won the individual title, shooting 77-72-75. The freshman from Briscoe, Texas put up four birdies in his second round and held on for the victory, finishing three strokes ahead of second place.
Weatherford's Logan Moore tied for fourth, Chris Choi tied for seventh and Bradley Missel tied for 30th place.
"We have been very close in a couple of events, so it's great to see all the work and progress the team has made all come together to get our first team win," said Jesse Speirs, WC golf coach. "The conditions were pretty extreme with wind blowing 30 miles per hour or higher for all three rounds. The guys did a great job in hanging in there and minimizing their mistakes."
The tournament was played at Shawnee Country Club, a par-70, 6,979-yard course.
