WC takes one from Temple
Crosby’s late shot brings victory to the Coyotes, women’s team falls on Saturday
The Weatherford College men's basketball team, currently in second place in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, edged out third-place Temple College on Saturday, Feb 22, in the Graber Athletic Center 65-61.
Scoring first, the Coyotes worked up and down the court to protect their early lead. Temple came back, edging out with 27-25 near the end of the first half. Down by two, WC needed a shot in the arm to get through the second.
Multiple lead changes and fouls didn't stop sophomore guard Braylon Crosby from locking in and getting the "and one" that led the Coyotes to their triumph over the Leopards.
Freshman guard Adrian Shackleton had 16 points, followed by sophomore guard Antwan Wilson and sophomore forward Tyson Whybrew putting up 14 points each.
Despite several important free throws late in the game, the Lady Coyotes were defeated 73-62 in their game against the Lady Leopards. Weatherford College is now tied for fifth place in the NTJCAC with Temple.
Sophomore guard Jacque Giron was the point leader for the women, putting up 18. Freshman guard Zion Hayes was the secondary, with 11 points.
Both Weatherford College teams will compete in important games against Grayson College on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The women's team plays at 5 p.m. and the men's team plays at 7 p.m. in the Graber Athletic Center.
