Highlanders sweep Coyotes
Wilson, Giron lead Lady Coyotes in tight loss
McLennan Community College won both games against the Weatherford College basketball teams at the Betty Jo Athletic Center on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
The Lady Coyotes ran a tight race as they faced the National Junior College Athletics Association's No. 9 ranked Lady Highlanders for their second of two conference matchups this season. But MCC took the victory 56-53.
Naomi Wilson and Jaque Giron tied for the lead in points for WC with 14 a piece. Pearson McVay ran a double-double, scoring 11 points alongside 11 rebounds.
The Lady Coyotes are now 15-8 overall, 6-4 in conference, while MCC improved to 20-2 and 9-1.
Despite several lead changes throughout the night, McLennan took the victory against the Coyotes 56-39. Fighting hard in the first half 22-28, WC ran out of time to bridge the gap in the second.
Tyson Whybrew lead WC with 10 points. In free throws, Adrian Shackleton went 4-for-4 and Tyson Whybrew 3-for-3.
The Highlanders were led by Rontavious Blackshear who scored 18 points.
The Coyotes are now 13-11 in conference play and 6-3 overall. McLennan improves to 20-4 and 7-1.
Both the Lady Coyotes and the Coyotes play at home on Saturday, Feb. 15, against Hill College. The women's team plays at 2 p.m. and the men's team plays at 4 p.m.
