WC to host baseball super regional
Coyotes earn hosting duties as the highest remaining NTJCAC seed with a World Series berth on the line.
For the first time, the Weatherford College baseball team is hosting the NJCAA Southwest District Super Regional Tournament, to be held Thursday through Saturday, May 14-16, at Roger Williams Ballpark. An "if necessary" game will be held on Sunday, May 17.
The four-team bracket will follow a double-elimination format, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.
Midland College (47-10, ranked No. 9 in the country) is the No. 1 seed in the super regional, followed by two seed Weatherford (39-18, ranked No. 21), three seed McLennan Community College (45-11, ranked No. 10) and four seed Howard College (31-25).
Weatherford opens tournament play against McLennan on Thursday at noon. Games are scheduled for noon and 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, with the championship game set for 3 p.m. Saturday and the "if necessary" game Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Coyotes enter the super regional after a two-game sweep of New Mexico Military Institute last week in the first round of the regional postseason. Weatherford earned the right to host this week's super regional as the highest remaining seed from the NTJCAC.
WC has won eight straight games and 14 of its last 15.
Tournament passes for the super regional are available for $25. Per-day admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and school-aged children. Passes are available for purchase online at weatherfordcollege.simpletix.com.
All games will be live-streamed on tsbnsports.com.
