Coyotes overwhelm Leopards, postseason clinched for WC
Weatherford College unleashes a barrage of home runs against Temple College and take the doubleheader
It was a home run derby for the Weatherford College baseball team on Wednesday in their doubleheader against Temple College.
The Coyotes launched a total of 12 home runs over the fence at Danny Scott Sports Complex, winning 18-6 in the early game, followed by the afternoon matchup ending in a 14-3 victory.
With a 22-8 conference record and 35-18 record overall, WC has clinched a spot in the postseason, with seeding being determined after the weekend slate of games.
Ty Waid was on another level in game one, hitting three home runs in his first three at-bats. A two-run shot left the park in the first, followed by solo shots in the second and fourth innings.
Six players from the Coyotes' lineup contributed to the HR stat across both games. Waid and Joseph Sandusky had three apiece.
Jake Overstreet and Austin Godwin both delivered two homers, while Walt Jones and Kyzer Harrington each recorded one.
Matching a strong batting performance on offense, the WC bullpen pitched well against the Leopards.
Jack Cagianello was on the bump in game one, striking out three and allowing only six runs on seven hits.
AJ Miera took the mound in game two, striking out six batters. He allowed only three runs on five hits and issued two walks.
The final regular season home games will be at Roger Williams Ballpark on Saturday May 2 against Temple, with the first pitch beginning at noon.
