Irons delivers grand slam as WC takes two from NCTC
Weatherford College rode a grand slam and balanced offense to a dominant conference sweep Wednesday at Roger Williams Ballpark.

The Weatherford College baseball team continued its strong finish to the regular season Wednesday, beating North Central Texas College twice at Roger Williams Ballpark to improve to 31-17 overall and 19-7 in conference play.
The No. 23 Coyotes have now won eight of their last nine games.
Game One: Weatherford 7, North Central Texas 2
Jackson Irons delivered the decisive blow in the opener, blasting a grand slam in the sixth inning to break open a tight game and lift Weatherford to a 7-2 victory.
With the score tied 2-2, Weatherford erupted for five runs on two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Irons' shot cleared the fence in left field, giving the Coyotes control of the game.
NCTC struck first in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, but Weatherford tied it later in the frame after capitalizing on an error. The Lions briefly regained the lead in the fifth before Jake Overstreet answered with a solo home run to left to knot the score.
Jack Cagianello started for Weatherford and turned in a solid outing, allowing two runs on five hits over five innings with four strikeouts. Rodney Pena closed the door in relief, tossing two scoreless innings while striking out two.
Overstreet and Kaden Robardey collected two hits apiece for the Coyotes, who played an error-free defense and turned a double play.
Game Two: Weatherford 10, North Central Texas 2
Weatherford wasted no time in the nightcap, using balanced offense and patient at-bats to cruise to a 10-2 win.
The Coyotes scored three times in the second inning and broke the game open with a five-run third. Garrett Schroeder delivered the big hit of the inning with a bases-clearing double, driving in three. Spencer Butt and Walt Jones each added run-scoring hits as Weatherford built a commanding lead.
AJ Miera earned the complete-game win, scattering seven hits and allowing two runs over seven innings without issuing a walk.
Schroeder led Weatherford with three RBI from the bottom of the lineup, while Overstreet and Butt each finished with two hits. The Coyotes drew nine walks, stole five bases and again played flawless defense.
Weatherford will carry its momentum forward as it enters the final stretch of conference play. The Coyotes travel to Gainesville Saturday before a non-conference game against Tyler Junior College at Williams Ballpark Monday at 1 p.m.
