Hering flips from Tech to WC
Golden glove winner commits to pitching for the Coyotes
Holden Hering is one of the most sought-after young baseball players in the country. Standing 6-foot-5-inches tall and weighing 225 pounds, the Mineral Wells High School graduate originally committed to play baseball at Texas Tech University, but recently changed his commitment to Weatherford College.
Turning in a 0.93 ERA in his senior season, Hering pitched over 74 and two-thirds innings. He allowed 37 hits and 10 earned runs with only 19 walks and 144 strikeouts. Not only did this help the Rams to the regional finals for the first time in 67 years, it also earned the right-hander an exclusive award.
Hering was named one of nine players in the nation to receive the ABCA/Rawlings High School Gold Glove Award. The award acknowledges the top defensive high school baseball players in the country. Hering was the sole pitcher during the 2024 season to earn this award, as well as the only player from Texas on the list.
Holden's father, Hart Hering, was a member of the inaugural Weatherford College baseball team, throwing the very first pitch in WC history in 2003. Hart Hering later went on to play at Texas A&M University.
