Coyote's hot bats fuel doubleheader sweep of Hill College
The No. 3 Weatherford College baseball team beat Hill College twice in Hillsboro on Wednesday, 9-2 and 9-3.
The Coyotes (35-7 overall, 17-5 conference) have won seven games in a row and remain in first place in the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference standings.
WC scored six runs in the top of the first inning of game one. Trace Mazon added a solo home run in the top of the fifth.
Evan Brandt picked up his nation-leading ninth win, allowing three hits and one earned run over seven innings with two strikeouts and one walk. Brandt's earned run average, third in the nation, dropped to 1.75 on the season.
Game two's offensive outburst came in the eighth inning, as four RBI singles produced five runs.
Uriah Walters drove in three runs, including a home run in the top of the fourth.
Fisher Polydoroff broke up a tie in the top of the sixth with an RBI single. A passed ball followed to make the score 4-2 WC.
Cooper Strawn made the start, allowing no earned runs over three innings with four strikeouts. Noah Bentley pitched four innings in relief, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking one.
WC will face Hill again on Saturday in a noon doubleheader at Roger Williams Ballpark.
