WC baseball takes two from Grayson
Steady hands-on defense & perfect placement on offense elevate WC
The No. 1 Weatherford College baseball team (11-3 in conference, 27-5 overall) continued their success in a doubleheader victory against Grayson College (9-5, 16-14), winning game one 3-1 and game two 7-3 at Roger Williams Ballpark Wednesday. The Coyotes have won nine of their last 10 games.
In game one, the Coyotes scored first in the fourth inning on a double from Manny Salas. Soon after, Jax Marshall took the sacrifice for another run to come in. Cayden Byrd was the third and final Coyote to have an RBI.
An impressive double play by shortstop Uriah Walters game kept the Vikings from taking the game in the seventh.
Grayson's only score came from a home run in the sixth.
Game two was smooth sailing for the Coyotes, putting up three in the first inning from an RBI off the bat of Marshall and added two more runs on a double from Byrd. Marshall then had an RBI double in the fifth.
Catcher Jake Overstreet was the Weatherford RBI leader, bringing in one in the fifth and two more home in the seventh.
WC's defense from the bullpen won game two, with Cooper Strawn claiming eight strikeouts and Rodney Pena claiming four in a combined 12 strikeouts.
The Coyotes will finish their series at Grayson on Saturday March 29 in a doubleheader starting at noon.
