Lady Coyotes tied for First, Coyotes in the Hunt
Both Weatherford College basketball teams are heading into the home stretch on impressive winning streaks.
The Lady Coyotes have won seven straight, forcing a three-way tie at the top of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference standings. WC (20-3 overall, 9-2 in NTJCAC play) is tied with Hill and Cisco for first place. WC already split with both Hill and Cisco in their season series, while Hill and Cisco will face off in their final regular season game Feb. 29.
The Lady Coyotes are looking for their first conference title since the 2008-09 season.
On the men’s side, the Coyotes have won four out of their last five and inserted themselves into the postseason discussion. The Coyotes (14-8 overall, 5-4 NTJCAC) are tied for third place with Collin, just behind Ranger and McLennan.
The Coyotes are looking for their first postseason berth since the 2007-08 season.
In both the men’s and women’s brackets, the top four teams from the NTJCAC and the top four from the Western Junior College Athletic Conference will earn invites to the Region 5 Tournament, with the top seed from each conference facing the number four seed from the opposite league, and so on. The tournament is scheduled for March 8-11 at Lubbock Christian University.
The Lady Coyotes and Coyotes, both coached by 35-year WC veteran Bob McKinley, will play their final home games Wed., Feb. 22 against Ranger, with 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. start times. On Saturday, Feb. 25 the teams will travel to Collin College in Plano, with the regular season finale at Temple College Feb. 29.
All remaining road games, including regular season and playoffs, will be aired on 89.5 FM Radio.
