Coyote Softball wraps up Strong Season

Since its inception, the Weatherford College softball team has been among the best around, and 2018 was no different.

The Coyotes once again made a strong run at season’s end, finishing second in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference with a 23-9 record. They were 35-16 overall.

The Coyotes advanced to the Region V-North Tournament where they won two and lost two.

“The team found ways to be successful through a lot of adversity during the entire year,” said head coach Haylee Williams. “I am very proud of my team and how much grit and determination they showed all season.

“We will start planning immediately and hit the recruiting trail hard this summer as always.”

Among the highlights of the season was the 200th career victory for Williams. It came in the season opener, an 11-2 victory against Northern Oklahoma in the Cowtown College Classic in Fort Worth.

Williams now has a 234-90 record in six seasons with two conference championships, six postseason appearances and a national tournament berth.

The Coyotes began the season with seven straight wins, one of two win streaks of that length during the season. Their longest losing skid never extended past three.

Three team members earned all-conference honors. Freshman infielder Eliza Eberhard was named to the first team, while sophomore pitcher Katy Simon and freshman utility player Morgan Page were selected for the second team.

The Coyotes’ roster featured six sophomores and 10 freshmen.
