WC women’s rodeo dominate barrel racing

The Weatherford College women’s rodeo team represented half of the top 10 in the final round of the Vernon College Rodeo barrel racing event from a field of 126 female athletes this past weekend.

Bristan Kennedy led the way in barrel racing, placing 3rd in the opening round and 1st in the finals en route to the event championship with 34.29 on two runs. Shaylee Hindman placed in both rounds and finished up 5th overall with 34.78 on two runs.

For the third time this season, Laney Fowler qualified for the finals and won 3rd in the final round and finished 7th for the weekend, while Sloan Anderson placed 5th in the opening round and tied teammate Kelly Valdez for 8th place for the weekend.

Faith Holyan placed in both rounds and won 4th place in breakaway roping, helping the women’s team to a 3rd place finish for the weekend.

The defending Southwest Region champion team ropers Lane Cooper and Kirby Blankenship got on the board this week by placing in both rounds and finishing 5th overall. Coy Arnold also placed in both rounds in tiedown roping picking up 5th place for the weekend.

A.C. Bass placed 7th and Scott Martell finished 10th in steer wrestling.

The WC rodeo team competes in the West Texas A&M Rodeo this weekend October 11-13 in Amarillo’s National Center.
