WC rodeo clinches top spot at Odessa College Rodeo

The Weatherford College rodeo team won top honors at the Odessa College Rodeo this past weekend. The WC women’s team took first place and the men finished second out of 16 teams.

Bristan Kennedy led the women to victory with the two fastest times in barrel racing, winning both rounds and surging past teammate Kelly Valdez for the No. 1 spot in the Southwest Regional standings.

Laney Fowler came back from 10th place in the first round to take second in the finals and finished third overall in barrel racing. Faith Holyan tied for third in breakaway roping.

Freshman Tate Thomas from Ranger, Georgia, won the men's All-Around title. He placed in both rounds and finished third in steer wrestling and made a comeback from 10th to third in tiedown roping after winning second in the finals.

Chantz Webster won the tiedown roping championship after setting what is believed to be a new Southwest Region record with a 7.3 second run in the finals. Leighton Berry won both rounds and the title in bareback riding moving him into the No. 2 spot in the regional standings.

WC Rodeo heads to Sweetwater March 21-23 for the Sweetwater College Rodeo.
