Weatherford College assistant baseball coach Chad Massengale has accepted the position of assistant baseball coach at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Massengale, a Weatherford High School graduate, joined WC as pitching coach under head coach Jeff Lightfoot in 2007.

"Chad did a great job for us here last year and I am excited for him and the opportunities presented to him at SFA," Lightfoot said. "He will certainly be missed both professionally and personally."

Massengale played baseball at Vernon College and Texas State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree. After playing professionally for the Shreveport Sports of the Central Baseball League for two years, he served as a volunteer coach at WC in the fall of 2003 before moving on to Texarkana College, where he coached for four seasons. He also served as an assistant coach with the Weatherford Wranglers for three summers.

"Coaching at Weatherford College was wonderful," Massengale said. "WC is a great place, and I really appreciate Jeff Lightfoot. WC opened up doors for me. My goal is to become a pitching coach in the Big XII or the SEC, and I felt like I needed to take the next step."

SFA is a Division I NCAA school in the Southland Conference. Massengale will serve as SFA's pitching coach.

"After a great run last season, the future is certainly bright here for our baseball program," Lightfoot said. "We have already had many calls about the position and we have begun the process of searching for a new assistant coach and look to have someone in place by September 1st."
