PORTALES, N.M.—Weatherford College rodeo athlete George Rowland won the tie-down roping championship at this weekend’s Eastern New Mexico University NIRA Rodeo. The Paradise native tied two calves in a total time of 18.3 to bring home the championship.

WC’s Clif Cooper took fourth place in the tie-down roping first go, the short go and the average.

Randall Eggemeyer, a Brock High School graduate, leads the regional team roping heading standings, while Salado native Beers leads the heeling.  The pair won the first go-round, third in the short go and third in the average at ENMU.

WC’s Kelsey Bearden was eight in the long go-round in breakaway roping and Stephenville native Kody Engle was 10th.

The WC team travels to Alpine Oct. 2-4 for the Sul Ross State University Rodeo.
