Bob McKinley owns a 771-369 record in his 34 years coaching bas- ketball at WC, making him the winningest active two-year college basketball coach in the nation. The coaches of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference have named him Coach of the Year eight times.
McKinley came to WC in 1977 as head men’s basketball coach. He coached both men’s and women’s basketball from 1991 to 1995, focused solely on women’s basketball from 1995 to 2011, and then returned to the role as dual head coach for the 2011-12 academic year. He also served as WC’s athletic director from 1977 to 2008, returning to that role in 2011. Under McKinley, the WC women’s basketball team has earned 11 conference championships, three regional championships, three national tournament berths and one NJCAA Final Four appearance. So far, 13 All-America selections and 14 Academic All-America honorees have played for the WC coach. As a player, McKinley led Bowie High School to the state finals in 1959 and the regional tournament in 1958 and 1960, earning a spot in the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He went on to play at TCU, where he was named team captain of the Horned Frogs. He began his coaching career at Pasadena High School, eventually moving on to Houston Baptist University, and then to WC. His wife, Dee, is retired from the Weatherford ISD. Bob and Dee have two children, Trey McKinley and Traci McKinley, and four grandchildren.
Larry Holman began coaching at Weatherford College in the fall of 2008.
Holman, a native of Oklahoma City, played basketball at Atlanta Christian College. He brings coaching experience from Sul Ross State University, the University of Texas at Dallas and Plano East Senior High School. Holman earned a bachelor's degree in business from Langston University and a master's degree in education from Sul Ross. Holman and his wife, Michelle, have two children. |
