Three Weatherford College baseball players have signed national letters of intent with Division I universities next year. Joe Weik and Matt Elliot have signed with TCU, and Garrett Smith has signed with Stephen F. Austin. ![]() "I am extremely proud of these young men for their leadership and commitment to our program and our philosophy," said Jeff Lightfoot, WC head coach. "These guys truly represent what it means to be a coyote baseball player - they are champions on the field and in the classroom. It's always nice to see hard work pay off and to watch these guys move up to the next level." Weik, a graduate of Nolan Catholic High School in Ft. Worth, was an All-Conference selection last season as a freshman first baseman, setting school records for doubles in a season (21) and RBI (67). Weik is also an academic standout, earning a spot on the Dean's List last spring. Elliot is a product of El Paso Franklin High School. He hit .331 with 26 RBI as the Coyotes' starting second baseman in 2008. Elliot was also a Dean's List honoree in the spring semester. Smith, an outfielder from Carthage, earned second team All-Conference honors last season as a freshman. He hit .405 for the year with 40 RBI, striking out only 13 times in 173 at-bats.
