In 13 years as a college head coach, Jeff Lightfoot has built an impressive resume of winning at a high level of competition.
Through the 2010 season, Lightfoot has amassed a 415-291 overall record, including four years at Eastfield College in Mesquite and nine years at Weatherford College.
His Eastfield team won the Division III Junior College World Series championship in 2001, a year after advancing to the title game in 2000. The Harvesters were ranked first in every NJCAA poll during their championship season.
In his four years as head coach at Eastfield, Lightfoot posted a 272-217 record. He is a two-time winner of each of the following awards: Texas-New Mexico Division III Coach of the Year, the Louisville Slugger Award for excellence in coaching, the Diamond Sports Company Region V Coach of the Year, and the Division III College World Series coaching award. In 2001, he earned National Coach of the Year honors from the NJCAA.
Moving up to the NJCAA Division I level as Weatherford College's first baseball coach, Lightfoot's squads have posted a 236-196 record. 2004 proved to be a breakout year for the new program, surprising the college baseball community with a conference championship and regional finals appearance. In 2008, 2010, and 2011, the Coyotes advanced to the fourth round of the regional tournament.
In nine years, 37 Coyotes have made the NTJCAC All-Conference team under Lightfoot's tutelage, and 42 WC players have moved on to play at the NCAA Division I level. Twenty-one players have been drafted by Major League Baseball franchises, and 17 former Coyotes have played professional base- ball.
Lightfoot was also the head coach of the Weatherford Wranglers during the team's four years in the Texas Collegiate League. The Wranglers made two trips to the postseason during that time and hosted the 2006 TCL All-Star Game at Williams Ballpark.
A 1988 graduate of Weatherford High School, Lightfoot holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a master's degree from Texas A&M-Commerce. In addition to his coaching duties, he teaches physical education at WC.
Lightfoot is married to the former Misti Morris, also of Weatherford. The Lightfoots have three young children: Cole, Grayson, and Canon; and attend North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford.
