The men's and women's rodeo teams from Weatherford College both finished in the top three at the Vernon College Rodeo Oct 8-10. The women's team finished in second place behind Tarleton, while the men's team finished third.
Cord Spradley won the steer wrestling championship with a first place showing in the long go and second in the short go.
WC's Cadee Tew, partnered with Chance Barnes from New Mexico, won the team roping championship. The pair dominated the event, winning the long, short and the average. Jake Cobb and Tarleton's Nick Rawlings ended up tied for third overall, and the team of Reese Riemer and Lane Hedeman won fifth in team roping.
In calf roping, Chase Richter won the first go round with a time of 8.2, Chris DeMases was sixth in the first round but took second in the average. Jaci Miller took second in breakaway roping.
The final rodeo of the fall semester takes place Oct. 15-17 as the teams of the NIRA's Southwest Region head to Texas Tech in Lubbock.
