LUBBOCK, Tex. - The Weatherford College rodeo team finished the fall season at the Texas Tech NIRA Rodeo October 23-25 with the second half of their 2008-09 season still to come. WC's Haley Brum won the co-championship in breakaway roping, posting an impressive 2.7 in the second run. Brum tied with Dana Weiser from South Plains for the title. Team ropers Karl Rios and Jake Cobb were named reserve champions, moving to fifth place in the overall Southwest region standings. Barrel racer McKinley Goodger of Boyd won the first go with a 15.72 second run, the fastest time of the rodeo. She finished the second run with a 15.96 run to win second in the average.
In calf roping, George Roland maintained his first place position in the region with a seventh-place finish in Lubbock. Clif Cooper of Decatur is just behind Roland with 215 points. Joe Beers (Salado) and Randall Eggemeyer (Brock) also remained in first place in the region in team roping. The duo has an 11-point standings lead. Bareback rider Jake Snyder ended up in 6th place, continuing his streak of not being bucked off in any of the fall rodeos. The Pilot Point native is now eighth in the region to end the fall semester. The WC men sit in second place overall, trailing Western Texas by 756 points. The women's team is in tenth place. The teams will now wait until March 5-7 to resume their season at the Ranger College Rodeo.
