WC announces summer athletic camps

Because, you never know where the next superstar athlete is coming from.

The Weatherford College basketball teams will host their first camp in recent memory June 10-13.

"It'll help promote our program to the local schools," WC Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Bob McKinley said. "They've got a lot of kids signed up already.

"I think it's great for the kids, our program, and our school."

The co-ed camp will be instructed by Lady Coyotes Assistant Coach Brittnie Haley and Coyotes Assistant Coach Chris Lewis. There will be two sessions, a fundamentals camp from 9-11:30 a.m. for youngsters entering kindergarten-sixth grade, and a player development camp from 1-4 p.m. for players entering grades 7-12.

The fundamentals camp will have registration from 8:30-9 a.m. on the opening day, while the player development camp will have registration from 12:30-1 p.m.

Cost for the camp is $60 if paid by May 31 or $75 after. To pay in advance, send to Haley at Weatherford College, 225 College Park Dr., Weatherford, Texas, 76086. Registration can also be done online, with an extra $2 fee, at wc.edu/coyotes-basketball camp.

All participants will receive a WC camp shirt and various awards will be given on the final day.

"It's a lot of fundamentals, and you give them some things they can take home and do," McKinley said. "That's what camps do, they give you the right way to do things. The ones who go home and work on things are the ones who have a chance to make themselves better players."

The Coyotes will hold an evaluation camp on Monday, June 3. Registration is 10:30 a.m. for pitchers and catchers and 1 p.m. for position players.

This showcase is an opportunity for players graduating high school in 2019, 2020 and 2021 to participate in a "pro-style" event. Players will be evaluated in the following areas: 60-yard dash, hitting, pitching and defense, and all evaluations will be made available to players.

Cost is $80 on the day of the camp, or pre-registration can be done by emailing Assistant Coach David Walden at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Check the Weatherford College Baseball page on Facebook and @WCCoyote Baseball Twitter for Weather Updates or changes. Roger Williams Ballpark has six covered batting cages and a covered pitching mound in case of inclement weather.

The Jeff Lightfoot Summer Baseball Camp will be held June 17-19 at Williams Ballpark for ages 6-12. Camp times are 8:30-11:30 a.m.

The camp staff will emphasize hitting, fielding, base running, throwing fundamentals through drills, proper practice techniques, game situations, and video evaluation. Players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills during games each day.

Campers are divided by age and ability for games and drills. Campers will be given instruction to help them advance into the total baseball player.

Camp organizer and Coyotes Head Coach Jeff Lightfoot has 677 wins in 21 years, the past 17 at Weatherford College. Pitching Coach David Walden brings a wealth of experience from all levels of baseball including 30-plus years of coaching. The remainder of the staff will be made up of former and current Coyote baseball players with college and pro experience.

Cost is $125 per camper. All participants will receive a 2019 WC Coyote Baseball Camp T-shirt, and various awards will be appointed on the camp's final day.
