WC Baseball swept by No. 5 McLennan

McLennan Community College’s baseball team, ranked No. 5 in the most recent National Junior College Athletic Association Division I poll, swept Weatherford College Saturday at Roger Williams Ballpark.

In game one, Blake Burns hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and WC finished the frame with a 6-1 lead. But MCC’s Keaton Milford hit a grand slam in a seven-run sixth inning for the Highlanders, leading to a 14-10 final.

McLennan won game two 9-2. Thomas Santos was 4-for-4 for McLennan. WC scored both of its runs in the bottom of the seventh.
The Highlanders are 22-6 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

The Coyotes (15-15, 6-6) travel to LSU-Eunice in a three-game series Thursday through Saturday. The Bengals are ranked No. 2 in NJCAA Division II.

WC returns home Monday for a 6 p.m. game against Brookhaven College.
