Two Coyotes drafted by MLB

Weatherford College baseball players Jake Lyons and Landon Gray were selected during the second day of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft Wednesday.

Lyons, a freshman pitcher last season, was picked up by the San Diego Padres in the 22nd round. The 6-foot-5, 271-pound right-hander from Irving Macarthur set a team record for strikeouts in a game (18) and in a season (114) in the 2017 season. He was named National Pitcher of the Week twice.

Gray, a freshman catcher from Granbury, was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 38th round. He hit .344 this past season with 50 RBI, 45 runs, seven home runs and four stolen bases.
