WC sweeps Temple

The Weatherford College baseball team made their path to the postseason much smoother by sweeping Temple College at Roger Williams Ballpark Wednesday, 10-0 and 16-1.

WC (31-20 overall, 19-11) now has a three-game lead over fourth-place Hill College in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference standings. The top four teams in both the NTJCAC and the Western Junior College Athletic Conference will advance to the Region 5 Tournament at Texas Tech May 12-17.

Both games ended early due to the Run Rule.

In game one, Coyote pitcher Jake Lyons pitched a two-hit shutout with no walks and three strikeouts over five innings. Payton Rhodes was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Jake Michener was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run, and Nick Evarts hit a home run.

Malik Jones had a four RBI performance in game two, going 2-for-5. Andrew Keefer was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, Lachlan Mayo was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Nick Evarts and Landon Gray hit home runs.

Wednesday was the home finale for the Coyotes. WC finishes the regular season at Temple with a doubleheader Saturday.
