Cleburne senior Ty Taylor has made it official that he'll continue his baseball career at the collegiate level in the fall at Weatherford College.Ty Taylor signs with Weatherford College

Taylor said he can focus on his senior year with more clarity now that the recruiting process is over.

"I've been waiting to do it for a long time," Taylor said. "Hopefully, I'll make it to the next level. It felt like a lot of pressure was lifted off my shoulders because now I can worry about the team this year instead of worrying about a place to play.

"Now I can play my game instead of worrying about getting recruited."

Taylor pitches and plays outfield for the Yellow Jackets and he said he'll continue to do so at Weatherford.

"I think the game there will be a lot faster," Taylor said. "Everybody there knows how to play and you have to work harder to find a spot because the person behind you is right there with you."

Taylor said he wants to help get Cleburne back into the playoffs during his final year as a Yellow Jacket.

"I'm looking forward to getting us back in the playoffs," Taylor said. "I'm looking forward to leading my team there and helping my teammates get better and helping myself get better, too."

Taylor said he is grateful for the guidance of his parents and for his summer league coaches for the Arlington A's during the recruiting process.

Ross Taylor, Ty's father and the head baseball coach at Cleburne High School said he was impressed with how his son handled the strenuous process.

"For me, it was interesting to watch it all," Ross Taylor said. "He had a lot of schools talking to him and he would get between 10 and 12 phone calls every Sunday and Monday evening. I didn't talk to the coaches. He did and when he finally made the decision, I thought he handled it like a young man.

"He called the other coaches and told them he appreciated their interest but that he was going to commit to Weatherford."

Ross Taylor said his son did his homework on Weatherford, so to speak.

"I asked him why he chose Weatherford and the reasons were all right," Ross Taylor said. "He was looking at where all their players had signed and seeing where they were two to three years from now. It was a good decision-making process for him to go through."
