WC athletic teams enjoy 10-0 weekend

The first weekend in February was a good one for Weatherford College athletics, as the Coyotes and Lady Coyotes won 10 games and lost none in basketball, softball and baseball.

The WC basketball teams continued conference play in Terrell at Southwestern Christian College. The Lady Coyotes began the day with a 77-72 victory, led by 19 points from Andreja Peciuraite. The Lady Coyotes improved 16-3 overall and a 7-2 conference record to stay atop the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference.

The men’s basketball team won another nail-biter, 91-90 over SWCC in overtime. Ke’lyn Adams had a huge offensive performance, scoring 38 points to lead WC. The Coyotes moved to 12-11 overall and 3-5 in NTJCAC play.

The WC softball team competed in the Cowtown Classic in Fort Worth, winning all five of their games Friday and Saturday. WC beat Galveston College 9-4 and Northern Oklahoma 16-8 on Friday. On Saturday, the Coyotes topped Lamar Port Arthur, 3-2; Luna, 7-1; and Coastal Bend, 3-1.

WC’s baseball squad opened the season Friday in Lufkin against Angelina College. The first game went into extra innings in a 9-5 WC win. The Coyotes came back in game two for another victory, 3-2. Weatherford’s home opener was Sunday in a 13-3 blowout over Seward County (Kansas) at Roger Williams Ballpark.
